There are events you attend, and there are events that stay with you. The TCS World 10K Bengaluru's 3K Champions with Disability was firmly the latter — a morning filled with warmth, music, movement, and the kind of genuine human energy that you rarely find anywhere, let alone at a race. Procam did a commendable job of making inclusion feel natural, not performative. The 3K CWD was thoughtfully scaled so it wouldn't overwhelm its participants, and that intentionality showed in every detail. With temperatures already climbing, the large holding tent was a welcome sanctuary — well-ventilated, spacious, and buzzing with life "The atmosphere in the tent wasn't just positive — it was electric. And the warm-up we didn't expect turned out to be the best one imaginable." Differently abled musicians and singers had taken over the stage, filling the tent with peppy, joyful music that made standing still feel almost impossible. Our team members found themselves swaying the moment each number started — arms in the air, smiles widening, inhibitions nowhere in sight. But what struck us most was watching the performers themselves: dancing with complete, unbridled abandon, hopping onto the stage without a trace of stage fright, utterly unconcerned with judgement. There's a freedom in that which most of us spend years chasing. The organisers had also arranged a delicious hot breakfast — because you can't run on music alone — and by 8am sharp, with warmed-up bodies and fully charged spirits, our team stepped out onto the tree-lined boulevards of central Bengaluru. Dickenson Road, Cubbon Road — streets that are always beautiful, made extraordinary that morning by the energy of the crowd. All along the route, people lined the roads to cheer. Dholaks, tablas, and chendas beat out a rhythm that kept legs moving and hearts light. The smiles were real, the encouragement was genuine, and the entire stretch to the finish line felt less like a race and more like a celebration in motion. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the world-class infrastructure designed with a deep commitment to accessibility and inclusion. The Campus Experience The campus is more than just a workspace; it is a thriving hub of innovation and empowerment. During our guided tour, we explored facilities that include the following: Accessible Learning Spaces: Training areas where individuals with diverse disabilities gain the skills needed to join the mainstream workforce. Cutting-Edge Assistive Tech: Specialised labs, like EI Labs, which catalyse community-driven assistive solutions to break down workplace barriers. Inclusive Amenities: Thoughtful features such as a sensory room for recharging and a crèche to support working parents and modified sinks and toilets for people using wheelchairs to ensure the environment truly "works for everyone". Movement sensors with voice instructions for people with low vision to navigate them to restrooms and to describe the art on the wall. Fire alarm with high-intensity strobe lights for people with low hearing. The tour was a powerful reminder that at EnAble India, the human spirit is always at the core. As we concluded our visit, the team’s warmth was further felt through a thoughtful gesture—we were treated to delicious snacks and refreshing juice, a sweet ending to an incredibly insightful day. Making a space inclusive shouldn't be a special project; it should be the standard. Universal design benefits everyone—from wheelchair users to parents with strollers—by removing barriers before they are even encountered. When we build for the widest range of human needs, we stop treating accessibility as an afterthought and start treating it as a fundamental right. Designing for "all" ensures that no one's potential is ever limited by the physical world around them. We left with a gallery of photos and videos that capture the energy of this remarkable place, but more importantly, we left inspired by their vision: a life of dignity for every person with a disability. In the world of "fast decor," most of these decorations are destined for a landfill by the first week of January. But at Diya Innovations, we believe that celebration shouldn’t come at the cost of the planet. This year, we were given a unique challenge by ITC Gardenia, Bangalore. Their theme was "Responsible Luxury." They didn’t want a tree made of PVC; they wanted a masterpiece made of soul. The Anatomy of a Sustainable Tree Our production studio in Bangalore went to work with guidance from our design mentor Artist of Change, Rahool Saksena. Instead of plastic, we used the earth. We handcrafted a grand Christmas tree using: Jute Cord: Forming the textured, organic bulk of the tree. Nature’s Elements: Twigs, sliced branches, and pine wood for the ornaments. The Signature Touch: Delicate Gardenia flowers made from white satin, dotting the tree as a nod to our host’s namesake. Every inch was handcrafted by our inclusive team. For our artisans—individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—this wasn't just a decoration. it was a high-stakes project for one of the city’s most prestigious hotels. It required precision, patience, and a commitment to quality that no factory machine could replicate. The Story Doesn’t End on January 4th In most places, January 4th is "Disposal Day." For us, it was "Transformation Day." As we dismantled the tree at ITC Gardenia, the work was only half-finished. True sustainability isn't just about using natural materials; it’s about circularity. We didn’t pack the jute cord into boxes to sit in a basement. We brought it back to our studio. Today, our team is busy turning that same jute cord into: Handcrafted Keychains Bag Charms Unique Jewelry pieces Nothing is thrown away. Nothing is wasted. The cord that greeted guests in a luxury lobby in December will soon be a keychain in someone’s pocket or a charm on a handbag. This is what we mean when we talk about a "viable business." We aren't just making "socially conscious" products—we are creating a circular economy that provides continuous, meaningful work for our team. This is quiet luxury with a conscience. This is the Diya way.
